Karazin University Holds the Final Academic Council Meeting of the Academic Year
On 30 June 2026, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University held another meeting of its Academic Council, marking the final session of the 2025/2026 academic year. Chaired by Rector Tetyana Kaganovska, the meeting addressed a broad range of staffing, structural, research, and educational matters, reviewing the year's achievements and outlining future priorities.
The meeting began with a tribute to the memory of the University's former Rector, Ivan Tarapov. Council members listened to a presentation on the life and professional achievements of the distinguished mathematician, whose 100th birth anniversary had been commemorated the previous day. The Council also warmly congratulated Vil Bakirov on being awarded the Order of Merit, Third Class.
As is customary, the Academic Council considered the conferral of academic titles on members of the University's academic staff, along with a number of personnel-related matters.
The Council approved changes to the structure of the Educational and Research Institute of Ecology, Green Energy and Sustainable Development, as well as the School of Radiophysics, Biomedical Electronics and Computer Systems.
The Trade Union Organisation of Students, PhD Candidates and Doctoral Researchers, together with the University's Student Council, presented the revised Regulations on the Award and Payment of Scholarships. Under the updated Regulations, the maximum proportion of the overall ranking score awarded for achievements in research, scientific and technological activities, community engagement, sports, and creative activities will increase from 7% to 10%.
The Council also heard and discussed a report by Vice-Rector Borys Samorodov on the current state of Karazin University's digital transformation.
Vice-Rector Oleksandr Holovko presented the results of the accreditation of educational programmes for the 2025/2026 academic year. During the meeting, the Council also approved the Karazin University Mental Health Preservation and Promotion Policy, supporting the psychological well-being of students and academic staff.
The University's continued development in research was reflected in the approval of decisions to establish more than twenty ad hoc specialised academic councils for the defence of doctoral (PhD) dissertations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Academic Council unanimously supported the nomination of Professor Volodymyr Smolanka for election as a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.
