Karazin University expands international cooperation with East Africa

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is developing new educational and grant partnerships with the African region. The initiative is being implemented with the support of the administration of Karazin University, together with the Summit International Institute (Republic of Burundi), and with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Kenya.

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and the Summit International Institute have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a new stage in their international academic cooperation and reaffirming mutual interest in a long-term strategic partnership.

Not only does the partnership involve the exchange of expertise, but also a transition to specific joint projects including educational programs, training sessions, certificate courses, and grant initiatives.

From Memorandum to practical initiatives

One of the key areas of cooperation is the joint development of grant proposals. At present, the parties have developed projects aimed at supporting the restoration and development of educational infrastructure.

A three-day training on strategic resource mobilization is scheduled to take place. It will constitute the first joint practical event and will lay the foundation for further collaboration in the field of grant management and fundraising. The topic of the training is the following:

• Mobilization of financial resources and grant management.

Another significant area of the partnership is the development of dual-degree programs, which are planned to be launched in two specialized fields:

• Disaster and conflict recovery management.
• Hospitality and tourism management.

These programs shall integrate academic preparation with international experience and the practical competencies required for economic recovery and human capital development.
The parties are working on the development of joint certificate programs in the following areas:

• Swahili language studies.
• Psychology of trauma and recovery in conflict settings.

These programs will create additional opportunities for intercultural communication, professional development and the exchange of knowledge between Ukraine and the countries of East Africa.

Dr. Samuel Irungu Njau, Chairman of the Board of the Summit International Institute, affirmed his commitment to implementing the joint programs at the earliest opportunity and emphasized the importance of developing academic courses aligned with the actual demands of the modern labor market.
