"The Kharkiv Frontier": Third Lecture within the "Week of Unity" Project
What is it, the genetic code of Kharkiv? How can one describe the character of our city?
On January 23, as part of the "Week of Unity" project, a lecture by Maxim Rosenfeld titled "The Kharkiv Frontier" took place. During the lecture, participants gained new insights into the history of Kharkiv and the region, exploring the lives of people in the "free economic zone" and the significance of the lands of Slobozhanshchyna. The economic and personal freedom laid the foundation for the city's development in its early years.
Maxim Rosenfeld poetically refers to Kharkiv as the "fortress of freedom," emphasizing that freedom became the first frontier of Kharkiv.
The next two frontiers proved to be equally crucial — education and avant-garde. The emergence of one of the first universities in Eastern Europe, the renowned Karazin University, influenced the formation of the city's character. In the 20th century, the avant-garde became a frontier characterized by a era of experiments, creativity, and revival.
