The team of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University has returned from a competition held in Stillwater, Oklahoma (USA). Despite extremely challenging conditions, our students have once again proven that Ukrainian science has a strong voice on the global stage!

Competing with the world’s leading universities

The Karazin team competed with participants from 18 countries and top universities around the world, including such giants as École Polytechnique (France), ETH Zurich (Switzerland), and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Germany).

In a fierce competition, our team ranked 15th among 20 teams, outperforming strong competitors from Austria and Denmark!

The proud traditions of the Kharkiv scientific school were represented by students from two faculties of Karazin University:

  • School of Physics and Technology: Anna Stativko, Mykyta Kyrpychov;
  • School of Physics: Ilya Khoroshko, Anna Bilyaeva, Anton Bukhtatyi.

The team’s long-standing mentor and coach is Professor of the School of Physics and Honored Teacher of Ukraine Zahar Oleksandrovych Maizelis.

Power of synergy and support

Preparing for an international tournament under conditions of full-scale war is a feat in itself. Every day, students combined studies, research work, and exhausting training.

This trip was made possible by incredible unity: crowdfunding among Karazin alumni and members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as financial support from the international technology company Ajax Systems.

We are proud of Karazin students! You are the future of Ukrainian and global science!

Background. The International Physicists’ Tournament (IPT) is one of the most prestigious student competitions in the world, where future scientists solve complex research problems and defend their solutions before an international jury in a scientific “physics fight” format.
