Day of Slavic Writing and Culture
Every year on May 24, we celebrate the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. This holiday reminds us of the importance of words, language, and written tradition in preserving historical memory, cultural heritage, and national identity. It is thanks to writing that nations leave behind not only their history but also a spiritual legacy.
On this day, we honor Saints Cyril and Methodius, who gave the Slavic peoples an alphabet and opened the path to the development of education, literature, and science in their native language. Their work became the foundation of a cultural tradition that still unites generations around the values of knowledge, dignity, and national identity.
For the academic community, language is not only a means of communication but also a space for intellectual growth, creativity, and free thought. Within the walls of Karazin University, the Ukrainian language is heard in lectures, research, discussions, and the daily work of students and teachers. Here, the word becomes a tool for learning, development, and social change.
Today, as Ukraine defends its independence and cultural identity, the preservation and development of the native language become especially important. For in language lies our memory, our resilience, and our unity.
May writing remain a source of enlightenment, culture a foundation of national strength, and the Ukrainian language an inspiration for future generations.
