National Flag Day of Ukraine: The University Extends Its Congratulations

23 august 2026 year

On 23 August, Ukraine celebrates National Flag Day, a holiday dedicated to one of the main symbols of our state, its independence, sovereignty, and unity.

The blue and yellow flag is inseparably linked to Ukraine’s modern history. On 23 August 1991, Ukrainian MPs brought the national flag into the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The very next day, Ukraine’s independence was proclaimed.

Today, the blue and yellow flag is a symbol of Ukraine’s struggle for freedom and independence. It flies over cities and villages liberated from occupation, accompanies Ukrainian service members on the frontline, and stands alongside volunteers, medical workers, researchers, educators, and students. These colours represent our history, our aspiration for freedom, and our right to determine our state's future.

On this day, we thank everyone who defends Ukraine and works every day for its future. Thanks to their courage and dedication, Ukrainians can live, study, work, and contribute to their country's development.

May the National Flag of Ukraine always fly over a free and independent Ukraine!

Happy National Flag Day of Ukraine!
