40th Anniversary of the Chornobyl Tragedy: Lessons of the Past and Challenges of the Present
On April 21, 2026, an important event took place — a round table dedicated to reflecting on the forty-year path since the Chornobyl disaster and discussing current threats to nuclear safety. In the context of global turbulence and wartime risks faced by Ukraine’s nuclear infrastructure, this dialogue became critically important for shaping a future system of international stability.
The Educational and Scientific Institute “School of Physics and Technology” was represented at a high level by true experts in their field:
- Yurii Sliusarenko — Head of the Department of Nuclear Physics and High Energy Physics named after O. I. Akhiezer and Professor of the Department of Reactor Materials and Physical Technologies;
- Valerii Zuiok — a graduate of the Institute who continues the traditions of our renowned school of physics.
The event brought together scientists, diplomats, and public officials to develop new mechanisms for protecting nuclear facilities and countering nuclear terrorism. We deeply honor the memory of those who were the first to stand in defense of the world against an atom that had gone out of control.
We remember the past, analyze mistakes, and work together for a safe and sustainable future!
