158th Anniversary of Mykhailo Hrushevsky's Birth: The University Remembers

Today marks the 158th anniversary of the birth of the prominent historian, political figure, and the first head of the Central Rada of the Ukrainian People's Republic, Mykhailo Hrushevsky.

Mykhailo Serhiyovych left a profound impact on the history of Ukraine. His scholarly research not only contributed to the revival of Ukrainian national consciousness but also charted new paths for Ukrainian historiography. Notably, he is the author of the monumental 10-volume History of Ukraine-Rus.

In 1906, Hrushevsky was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor by our university, symbolizing the deep respect of the academic community for the scholar whose work laid the foundation for future generations of Ukrainian historians.

Karazin University, one of Ukraine’s leading scientific centers, recognized the invaluable contribution of Mykhailo Hrushevsky to Ukrainian science and culture. His works, along with his life journey, serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving and defending national identity, even in the most challenging times.

Today, for every Ukrainian, the name of Mykhailo Hrushevsky is not just a symbol of academic achievement, but also an embodiment of the pursuit of freedom and independence. Honoring his memory, we reflect not only on his great historical legacy but also on his contribution to the development of Ukrainian education and science.
