On May 19, 2026, Professor Volodymyr Berest, Head of the Department of Molecular and Medical Biophysics, served as a speaker at Training No. 3 “Faculty Experience Exchange Session” within the online course “Google AI Tools for Karazin University Teachers: Personalizing Student Learning,” organized in cooperation between Google for Education and Beetroot Academy.

His presentation, “AI as a Bridge Between Theory and Practice: Using NotebookLM and Gemini for the Analysis of Spectroscopic Data and Scientific Publications,” highlighted the experience of integrating NotebookLM into the educational process of the faculty as an interactive textbook, enabling students to instantly obtain answers regarding optimal substance concentrations and experimental parameters. He also presented the use of Gemini in preparation for laboratory work, where students can model experimental design and test hypotheses before working with real equipment. In addition, a case study was shared on creating content for a distance course in “Methods of Biophysical Research,” where NotebookLM was used to transform lecture notes and course materials into a series of presentations and podcasts for course modules.

Overall, the goal of the course “Google AI Tools for Karazin University Teachers: Personalizing Student Learning” was to help instructors master artificial intelligence and make student learning more personalized, innovative, and effective. Each workshop was designed following a “from real problem to ready solution” approach, enabling immediate practical application of new skills.

The course enabled instructors to:

  • create a knowledge base for their discipline using NotebookLM and teach students to use it safely;
  • develop a personalized AI tutor for students in the Gemini Gems environment;
  • generate interactive educational materials using the Gemini Canvas tool.
