Karazin University Expresses Solidarity with Zaporizhzhia National University and Sumy State University

Karazin University expresses its solidarity with colleagues at Zaporizhzhia National University and Sumy State University, which have once again come under Russian attacks.

On the night of September 21, three buildings of Zaporizhzhia National University were damaged as a result of Russian shelling. The third building, an architectural landmark dating from the early 20th century, suffered the most damage. The fourth and fifth buildings were also damaged. According to the university, no students or staff members were injured.

On the evening of September 20, Russian forces struck the grounds of Sumy State University. The facades, windows, and doors of university buildings were damaged. An assessment of the damage and efforts to address the consequences are currently underway.

Attacks on universities are attacks on educational and research infrastructure, cultural heritage, and the spaces where people study, work, and develop every day.

Karazin University stands in solidarity with the colleagues, students, and staff of Zaporizhzhia National University and Sumy State University. We wish them strength in overcoming the consequences of the attacks and the swift restoration of the university buildings.

Despite all the challenges and ongoing attacks, Ukrainian universities continue to work, support one another, and ensure the continuity of the educational and research process.
