Karazin University Representatives Join Parliamentary Dialogue with Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk

On September 21, a parliamentary dialogue with Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk took place in Kharkiv. The open discussion of current issues of state policy and the development of Ukrainian legislation was attended by Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Council Tetyana Yehorova-Lutsenko, Members of the Parliament of Ukraine, and representatives of Kharkiv's legal and academic communities, including academic and teaching staff and students of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, among them representatives of Karazin University's School of Law, namely its faculty members and students.

One of the central topics of the meeting was the draft of the new Civil Code of Ukraine and prospects for updating private law. Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that the current Civil Code, adopted in 2003, has played an important role in the development of Ukraine's legal system, but modern social relations have changed significantly. Among the new challenges, he mentioned digitalization, the development of artificial intelligence, digital rights, new forms of communication, and the need to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with European legal approaches.

According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, work on the new version of the Civil Code has been underway for several years. The document has undergone public discussion, and proposals and amendments are currently being considered. At present, however, no specific deadline has been set for completing work on the draft.

“Quality is the priority. We are not setting deadlines,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the need for further professional discussion of the document's provisions with representatives of the professional community and civil society.

Representatives of Karazin University — faculty members, staff, and students — took part in the parliamentary dialogue and had the opportunity to ask questions of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The participation of Karazin University representatives in this discussion provided an opportunity to directly contribute to the debate on the future of Ukrainian legislation, both from the perspective of the academic and teaching community and that of the student community.
