Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Ukraine Who Died in the War

29 august 2026 year

On August 29, Ukraine honours the memory of the defenders of Ukraine who lost their lives fighting for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of our country. This day is a reminder of the immeasurable price that the Ukrainian people pay every day for the right to live on their own land, speak their native language, and build their future.

For Karazin University, this date is marked by particular pain and profound respect. Among those who stood up to defend Ukraine against Russian aggression are our lecturers, researchers, students, alumni, and staff members. They exchanged lecture halls, laboratories, and books for weapons and trenches. Many of them paid the ultimate price for the freedom of their homeland — their own lives.

We remember each and every one of them. Every life lost is an irreparable pain for the Karazin community and a profound loss for Ukrainian science, education, and the future of our state.

To preserve the heroic deeds and names of our Heroes for future generations, Karazin University maintains the Karazin University Virtual Memorial. It contains the life stories, struggles, and heroic deeds of Karazin community members who lost their lives in the war. We call on our community to visit the Memorial, remember our colleagues, students, and friends, and pay tribute to their memory.

We bow our heads in a minute of silence in honour of the bright memory of all the warriors who gave their lives for Ukraine. We extend our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, and fellow servicemen of the fallen Heroes.

Eternal glory and remembrance to the defenders of Ukraine! They live on as long as our memory and our struggle live on.
