Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II

8 may 2026 year

On May 8, Ukraine together with the European community commemorates the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II of 1939–1945. This date serves as a reminder of one of the most tragic chapters in human history, of millions of lives lost, shattered destinies, and the high price of peace.

For the Ukrainian people, World War II became an enormous ordeal. Ukraine was one of the main theatres of military operations. The memory of the feat of those who defeated Nazism is an inseparable part of our national consciousness.

The university community remembers the contribution of scholars, lecturers, students, and alumni of Karazin University who, during the war years, defended their Homeland, worked for the sake of the future, and rebuilt the country in the post-war period.

Today, as Ukraine once again fights for its freedom, independence, and right to peaceful life, the memory of the events of World War II acquires special significance. It reminds us of the value of human life, the necessity of unity, and the responsibility of every individual for preserving peace, democracy, and humanity.

We bow our heads before all those who gave their lives for the victory over Nazism and express our sincere gratitude to the generation of victors. We remember.
