A Student of the School of Radiophysics, Biomedical Electronics and Computer Systems Presents Research at an International IEEE Conference

9 october 2026 year

On 7 October 2026, Maryna Oleinikova, an undergraduate student at the Department of Biophysics and Bioinformatics, delivered an oral presentation at the international conference IEEE 2026 IEEE 7th KhPI Week on Advanced Technology, held in Kharkiv.

Maryna is currently studying in Sweden as part of the Erasmus+ academic mobility programme at Umeå University.

Maryna presented the findings of her research entitled “Classification of Red Blood Cell Types Using Neural Network and Deep Learning”.

The study combines several areas that are essential to contemporary biophysics and biomedical technologies: automated cell image analysis, recognition of red blood cell morphological features, neural networks and deep learning.

It is particularly encouraging that this research was presented by an undergraduate student. This is an excellent example of how contemporary biophysics education is moving beyond the acquisition of fundamental knowledge towards hands-on research at the intersection of physics, biology, medicine and artificial intelligence.

One of the aims of Karazin University’s new interdisciplinary Biophysics degree programme is to teach students not only to understand living systems at the molecular and cellular levels but also to use advanced computational and AI tools to investigate them and translate research findings into clinical diagnostic practice.

We are proud of Maryna and wish her a productive research stay, valuable networking opportunities, engaging discussions, and exciting new research findings!
