Karazin University Community Joins the Celebration of World Press Freedom Day

3 may 2026 year

The holiday was established in 1993 at the initiative of UNESCO and supported by the United Nations General Assembly. Its foundation was the Windhoek Declaration, signed on May 3, 1991, in Namibia — a document that called on governments around the world to guarantee the freedom and independence of the press.

Today, the importance of press freedom has taken on particular significance. In the context of global challenges and information warfare, journalists provide society with truthful and reliable information.

Karazin University actively supports the development of independent media in Ukraine. The training of future journalists and media professionals is carried out by the School of Philology and the Education and Research Institute of Sociology and Media Communications. Our graduates work in leading Ukrainian and international media outlets, upholding and advancing the traditions of high-quality and responsible journalism.

Coverage of university life has traditionally been carried out by specialists of the Center for Public Relations and the editorial team of the newspaper “Karazin University,” which have preserved and conveyed its voice for decades.

We express our sincere gratitude and deep respect to Ukrainian journalists — those who remain committed to the truth and to their mission.
