Day of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine
July 16 has forever been etched in the history of our nation as a symbol of freedom, dignity, and unwavering aspiration for independence. Today, we celebrate the Day of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine.
The Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine, adopted in 1990, was the first step towards the restoration of our country's independence. This important document affirmed the Ukrainian people's desire to live in a free, democratic, and lawful state where every citizen has the right to make their own choices and have a voice in determining the future.
The Declaration was the first state-legal document in Ukraine's history to proclaim sovereignty. For the first time, alongside the term "Ukrainian SSR," the word "Ukraine" was used as the name of the state. The document continued the traditions of Ukrainian statehood and laid the groundwork for the adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine.
Since its founding, Karazin University has been and remains a center of scientific and cultural life in Ukraine. It is here that generations of Ukrainian intellectuals have been educated, contributing through their work and achievements to the establishment of our national identity and the independence of our country.
We remember the significant contributions made by our predecessors for the sake of freedom and independence, and we unite our efforts to preserve and enhance this legacy!
