Renowned Historian and Local History Scholar, Professor Serhii Mykhailovych Kudelko, Passes Away: The Karazin Community Extends Its Condolences

On 19 August 2026, Professor Serhii Mykhailovych Kudelko, Professor of the Department of Historiography, Heritage Studies and Archaeology at the School of History, Director of the P. T. Tronko Centre for Ukrainian Studies and Local History at Karazin University, and an Honorary Citizen of Kharkiv, passed away.

His entire life was closely connected with Karazin University. In 1974, he graduated with a degree in History and remained at the University as a member of the academic staff, progressing from lecturer to professor and Honoured Educator. For many years, he served as Deputy Dean of the School of History for Research and also worked as Vice-Rector of the University. In 2008, he became the head of the first university Centre for Local History Research in Ukraine and remained its dedicated director until the final days of his life.

Serhii Mykhailovych was a true university man: a scholar, mentor, and educator. He generously shared his knowledge and wisdom throughout his life, inspiring and educating generations of researchers. This is how he will remain in the grateful memory and hearts of the university community.

The Karazin University community extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, students, and colleagues of Serhii Mykhailovych on this irreparable loss.
