National Barrier-Free Week

26 may 2026 year

From May 25 to 31, 2026, Ukraine is holding the National Barrier-Free Week — an initiative aimed at drawing public attention to the importance of creating an accessible environment and ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens.

This year’s focus is on the development of a human-centered communication culture, which implies attentive, respectful, and responsible interaction with every person in the process of communication.

An important component of this approach is language. That is why Ukraine has introduced the first state standard, “Barrier-Free Terminology.” The standard covers more than 100 terms related to the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities, veterans, parents with children, and other groups that may face prejudice in society.

To support this approach, another practical tool is already available — the Barrier-Free Guide.
