Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation Oksana Ferchuk Visits Karazin University

Together with Acting Rector Tetyana Kaganovska and Vice-Rectors Anatolii Babichev and Daria Bortnikova, she visited the Karazin BioMed research laboratory of the Department of Biochemistry, where the Minister learned more about the operation of the most advanced bioprinter of its kind in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. As previously reported, this unique device enables students and researchers to create implants and tissue equivalents — including skin, corneas, bones, and cartilage — which can be used in transplantation, reconstructive surgery, regenerative medicine, traumatology, orthopaedics, cardiac surgery, and dentistry. It is also used for testing new medicines.

“The bioprinter has opened up new opportunities in the field of medical bioengineering and has made it possible to train highly qualified specialists of the future. This initiative demonstrates that Ukrainian higher education institutions are capable of developing scientific potential, implementing innovative educational solutions, and competing successfully at the international level,” said Tetyana Kaganovska, Acting Rector of Karazin University.

The equipment has been successfully operating at Karazin University for almost a year. It is used for both research and educational activities. Its introduction has helped the University nearly double the number of students admitted to the Bioengineering and Biology programmes.
