Ukrainian tennis team wins Davis Cup First World Group match
The Ukrainian tennis team defeated Colombia in the team match of the Davis Cup World Group.
On September 14 and 15, the teams competed on hard courts at Kaspi (Georgia) to secure a spot in the qualification for the Davis Cup 2024 final tournament.
The winner of the face-off in Georgia was determined based on the results of five matches, with Ukraine emerging victorious with a score of 3:2. The decisive fifth match featured a graduate of the School of Economics of Karazin University, Vladislav Orlov, facing off against Nicolas Mejia (ranked 305th in the world). Vladislav lost the first set 5:7 but managed to win the next two sets.
After the match, Vladislav said, "We gave everything we could and even more. We won where there were no chances. Ukraine, this victory is for you! The least we can do. The Ukrainian nation is strong and free, and we cannot be defeated. Ukrainian defenders, we are with you. Glory to Ukraine!"
