The Lunyov Readings "Ways and Methods of Enriching Museum Collections: History and Modern Experience" took place at Karazin University
On March 29th, the XV Lunyov Readings "Ways and Methods of Enriching Museum Collections: History and Contemporary Experience" took place at the School of History of Karazin Kharkiv National University.
The event was co-organized by the historical faculty, the Department of Historiography, Source Studies and Archaeology, the Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local Lore named after academician P.T. Tron'ko, and the Department of Ukrainian Studies named after D.I. Bagaliy of Karazin Kharkiv National University.
The annual conference is dedicated to the memory of the prominent Ukrainian educator, museum expert, art historian, and graduate of the School of History of Karazin Kharkiv National University, Afanasiy Fedorovych Lunyov (1919–2004). This modest rural teacher gained fame by founding a unique rural historical and artistic museum in the village of Parkhomivka in Krasnokutskyi district and, together with his students, gathered a collection of world-class artworks there.
The conference took place in an online format and was attended by researchers from higher education institutions, museum experts, art historians, historians, librarians, and local lore specialists from Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, as well as other cities of Ukraine.
The opening remarks at the plenary session were given by the university's vice-rector Anton Panteleimonov, the Dean of the School of Gistory Sergiy Lytovchenko, the Chair of the conference organizing committee, the Head of the Association of Museum Workers of Higher Education Institutions of Kharkiv, the Head of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies and Archaeology Sergiy Posokhov, and also Afanasiy Lunyov's grandson Volodymyr Lunyov.
During the plenary session, the Deputy director of the Tron'ko Center Olha Vovk presented the online exhibition "Preserving for Future Generations: Acquisitions to the Funds of the Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local Lore named after academician P.T. Tron'ko of Karazin Kharkiv National University in 2022–2024". The Secretary of the Organizing Committee, Associate Professor of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies and Archaeology, Head of the Department of Ukrainian Studies named after D.I. Bagaliy, Olha Pavlova, presented the creative Prize named after A.F. Lunyov - the picturesque work "Old Poplar. Sedniv" by the Kharkiv artist Nina Verbuk.
During the conference, three sections worked:
- "Collecting Policies of Museums in the Past and Present";
- "Enriching Museum Collections in Times of War";
- "Current Issues in Museum Affairs: Preservation of Traditions and Support for Innovations".
As a result of the conference, the laureate of the A.F. Lunyov Prize became the head of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies and Archaeology Sergiy Posokhov.
