Results of the High Scientific Council Meeting of the European Nuclear Society
Recently, another meeting of the High Scientific Council (HSC) of the European Nuclear Society (ENS) took place in Brussels. This is a key platform where leading European experts shape the scientific strategy of the field and discuss the most pressing challenges.
Ukraine was represented at the meeting by the Director of the Education and Research Institute “School of Physics and Technology” and a board member of the public organization “Ukrainian Nuclear Society” (UkrNS), Pylyp Kuznietsov.
The agenda was extremely intensive and covered strategic development directions for the coming years:
- Young talents: the selection of finalists for the prestigious ENS HSC PhD Award 2026 took place. Supporting young scientists remains the number one priority.
- Small Modular Reactors (SMR): special attention was given to regulatory aspects of implementing SMRs and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMR).
- Standards harmonization: discussion of the IAEA initiative on Nuclear Harmonization and Standardization (NHSI).
- Strategy 2026–2029: definition of thematic priorities and key direction leaders for the new term of the council.
An important highlight was the official release of the position paper “Unlocking the Potential of Radiopharmaceuticals in Europe”. This document outlines strategic steps to strengthen supply chains of medical radioisotopes and develop personalized medicine in Europe.
