Enlightener, Scientist, Philanthropist: Discover More About Vasyl Karazin

We invite the Karazin University community and everyone interested to learn more about Vasyl Nazarovych Karazin, the visionary behind the founding of Kharkiv University and a scholar who devoted much of his life to scientific inquiry.

Through the materials presented here, you will discover the key milestones of Vasyl Karazin's life and his pivotal role in establishing Kharkiv University. You will also learn about the achievements of this self-taught scientist and take a "journey through time" to his estate in Kruchyk near Bohodukhiv, where the enlightened thinker sought to put his vision of an "ideal society" into practice.

Although Vasyl Nazarovych made significant contributions to science and was a renowned philanthropist, his name is most closely associated with the founding of Kharkiv University — an institution that ultimately transformed Kharkiv and the Slobozhanshchyna region while making a substantial contribution to the development of Ukrainian national identity.

The materials were prepared by the staff of the History Museum of the Museum Complex of Karazin University in cooperation with representatives of the National Network for the Development of Local Philanthropy.
