The University Celebrates UN International Day of Education

24 january 2024 year

In 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared January 24th as the International Day of Education to recognize its role in achieving peace and development. Nigeria initiated the establishment of this day. It's worth noting that education is a key factor in achieving all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with the fourth goal being "Quality Education."

The foundation of peaceful and just societies is laid by education — a force that permeates all aspects of our daily lives. Education enables the acquisition of essential knowledge, values, principles, skills, and behavioral models, empowering individuals to be catalysts for peace in communities.

Ukraine has long been in the throes of conflict. Despite the war, education remains a steadfast commitment, a sentiment engraved in the hearts of all members of the Karazin University community since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Today marks exactly 700 days since Karazin University and other higher education institutions have been operating under extremely challenging conditions, contributing to the future amid the ongoing conflict. Despite everything, the university continues to educate students and preserve and modernize the intellectual potential of Kharkiv and Ukraine.

For 219 years, Karazin University has been providing opportunities for acquiring new knowledge to all those eager to learn. Over its existence, the university has produced over 140,000 graduates. The names of Karazin's alumni are immortalized in geographic names, names of celestial objects, plants, minerals, laws, and formulas. Their contribution to the development of Ukraine is truly invaluable.

Congratulations to all seekers of education and educators on this day! Learn something new every day, as knowledge is one of the greatest treasures of our lives. We believe that peace will come to our Ukrainian land as soon as possible!
