The Second Webinar of the FutureLand Project took place

On 27 February 2026, the second webinar on the topic “The Nature Restoration Law in Practice: Roles, Responsibilities and Expectations in the Finnish Forest Sector” took place.

The webinar was held within the framework of the project “Nature Restoration — Challenges and Opportunities for Future Landscape Specialists” (FutureLand), funded by the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships for Higher Education (KA220-HED) program. Project participants include:

  • University of Eastern Finland (Finland)

  • University of Girona (Spain)

  • Università Iuav di Venezia (Italy)

  • Regional Council of North Karelia (Finland)

  • Diputació de Girona (Spain)

  • Ente Parco Regionale Veneto Delta del Po (Italy)

  • V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, where the project is implemented by the Department of Socio-Economic Geography and Regional Studies named after Kostiantyn Niemets, School of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Travel Business.

The webinar gathered over 130 participants, including students, graduate students, researchers, and representatives of various companies and organizations from 9 countries.

During the webinar:

  • Outi Ala-Honkola, Senior Specialist at the Ministry of the Environment,

  • Santtu Kareksela, Head of Restoration and Nature Services at Metsähallitus, Parks & Wildlife Finland,

  • Ninni Saarinen, Nature Conservation Specialist and Coordinator of the LUMO Program at the Centre for Economic Development (Finland) — discussed the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation in Finland.

Additionally, Rauli Perkiö, Forestry Specialist at Tomator, Essi Arminen, Junior Specialist at Akordi, Anna Laine-Petäjäkangas, Associate Professor of Restoration Ecology at the University of Eastern Finland, and Sari Koivula, Forest and Climate Expert at the Regional Council of North Karelia, presented practical aspects of forest and peatland restoration in Finland.

The next webinar will take place on 20 March 2026. We invite everyone to participate.
