Student Sofia Baletska Becomes Prize Winner of the Science Image Competition 2025

Sofia Baletska, a student of the School of Physics, has become a prize winner of the All-Ukrainian “Science Image Competition 2025,” organized by the NGO “Wikimedia Ukraine.”

According to the competition results, Sofia received two awards:

• 3rd place in the category “People in Science” for a photograph taken in a clean room at the University of Oxford, where she works with a detector quality control setup as part of the Mu3e experiment;
• 4th place in the General Category for an image of the interior of the TRIGA research reactor at the Jožef Stefan Institute (Slovenia).

The competition was held in Ukraine from November 20 to December 20, 2025. Its aim is to promote science through visual materials and to create high-quality images for illustrating Wikipedia articles. Participants submit photographs and graphic works that showcase scientific research, objects, and processes.

In 2025, the competition brought together 76 participants, who submitted 744 images across various categories, including “People in Science,” “Microscopy,” “Living Organisms,” “Non-photographic Images,” and the General Category.

The best works from the national stage proceed to the international Wiki Science Competition.

The Science Image Competition has been held in Ukraine since 2015 and is part of an international initiative aimed at promoting science and disseminating open knowledge.
