Presentation of the United Center for Innovative Science as Part of the 220th Anniversary Celebration of Karazin University

30 january 2025 year

Throughout its history, one of Karazin University's primary missions has been to advance cutting-edge scientific research to address global challenges. A new milestone in this mission is the establishment and presentation of the United Center for Innovative Science, which took place as part of the university’s 220th-anniversary celebrations.

Thanks to the efforts of Karazin scholars and the support of the university’s friends and partners, state-of-the-art equipment has been installed at the faculties of chemistry and biology. This will enable students to acquire essential skills and allow researchers to conduct advanced studies using top-tier scientific instruments.

The presentation of the United Center for Innovative Science was attended by university administrators, government representatives, and distinguished guests, including the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi; his Deputy, Mykhailo Vynnytskyi; Rector of Karazin University, Tetyana Kaganovska; Rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Ihor Tsependa; and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Socio-Economic Development of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Yaroslav Shynkaruk. Minister Lisovyi emphasized the importance of having a clear development strategy and understanding the needs of the local economy, as well as the national and global markets, to which Karazin University can now contribute with various innovative research projects.

With funding from the World Bank Group and active support from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, two high-performance liquid chromatographs — Shimadzu LC2050C 3D and Shimadzu LC40 X3 — have been acquired and installed in the Shared Research Facility (Chromatography Laboratory of the School of Chemistry).

These chromatographs will be utilized for training highly qualified specialists under bachelor's, master's, and PhD programs in Chemistry (specialty 102). Additionally, they will support scientific research in qualitative and quantitative analysis of pharmaceuticals, fuel and lubricants, agricultural products, foodstuffs, soil, and water. The chromatographs will also play a key role in executing various research projects funded by the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and international grants.

As part of the center’s presentation, guests also explored the new state-of-the-art educational and research space — the Molecular Genetics Research Department at the "Karazin BioMed" Biomedical Research Laboratory of the Department of Biochemistry (School of Biology). Equipped with world-class instruments, this facility provides students and researchers with unique opportunities to work with technologies shaping the future of medicine, from automated DNA extraction to real-time PCR analysis.

Here, students gain hands-on experience that meets the highest standards in molecular diagnostics, medical genetics, and forensic science. The advanced equipment, including the robotic QIAcube complex and the AriaMx system, features a virtual simulator, enabling remote learning opportunities.

Karazin University continues to set quality standards, proving that Ukrainian science is not only capable of responding to modern challenges but also shaping the future!
