Representatives of the Education and Research Institute "UEPA" Participated in the Kick-off Meeting of the ERASMUS+ CBHE Project EUComplianceM4UA at Wismar University (Germany)
From January 20–23, 2025, a delegation from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University took part in the kick-off meeting of the international project EUComplianceM4UA – "Implementation of the European Approach of Compliance Management in Higher Education in Ukraine." The event was hosted by Hochschule Wismar – University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business, and Design (Wismar, Germany).
The delegation included Iryna Shteimiller, Head of the International Relations Office; Roman Nesterenko, Deputy Head of the International Relations Office; Maryna Vasylieva, Deputy Director of the Education and Research Institute "Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogics Academy" (UEPA), Professor; and Yuliia Dudnieva, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Management. The event gathered representatives from universities and partner organizations from Ukraine, Germany, Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Poland.
The main goal of the meeting was to discuss the key work packages and tasks of the project, as well as to familiarize participants with the partners’ expertise in compliance management. The event program included a series of seminars and training sessions on legal and regulatory aspects of compliance, business ethics, corporate behavior, and modern management practices in this field.
The meeting marked an important step in the implementation of the Erasmus+ project, aimed at developing compliance management in Ukraine and exchanging best European practices in this field.
Among the highlights of the visit were a meeting at the Town Hall of the Hanseatic City of Wismar with Mayor Thomas Beyer and his assistants, as well as a training session by Tobias Ruppert, Compliance Officer at Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks & Plant Wörth.
The cultural and social program included a tour of the Hochschule Wismar campus, a brief introduction to Wismar and Schwerin, and a visit to Schwerin Castle – the former main residence of the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, which now houses the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Parliament and a museum.
Project Focus and Goals
The EUComplianceM4UA project focuses on implementing the European approach to compliance management, with a strategic goal of enhancing academic integrity, international management, entrepreneurship, business ethics, and legal aspects in less experienced Ukrainian higher education institutions.
The project's objective is to improve teaching and assessment mechanisms in universities, with an emphasis on quality assurance, governance, anti-corruption efforts, and innovation in line with EU compliance standards.
At Karazin University, the project will be implemented at the Center for Innovative Education Technologies of the Education and Research Institute "Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogics Academy" (UEPA), in cooperation with the Department of Economics and Management and the Department of Marketing and Trade Entrepreneurship at UEPA.
The project team leader at Karazin University is Marina Vasylieva, Deputy Director of UEPA and Professor of the Department of Pedagogy, Methodology, and Educational Management. The project manager (Coordinator) is Roman Nesterenko, Deputy Head of the International Relations Office.**
Key Activities within the Project
- Enhancing academic staff's capacity for teaching and research in compliance management.
- Developing master's-level courses in five Ukrainian universities to enhance students’ competencies, skills, and employability potential.
- Creating and publishing an interactive digital textbook on compliance management.
- Establishing an open, micro-certified short-term compliance management program for business managers to better align with labor market needs.
- Promoting digital transformation in compliance education in Ukraine through innovative tools such as e-books, podcasts, videos, and gamification solutions.
