Honorary Doctor of Karazin University Serhiy Zhadan was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature
The Ukrainian writer and poet, public activist, Honorary Doctor of Karazin University Serhiy Zhadan was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
He was born into a Ukrainian-speaking family in Starobilsk where he spent his childhood. In 1991, he moved to Kharkiv, was one of the organizers of the Kharkiv neo-futurist literary group «Chervona Fira».
He graduated from the School of Ukrainian-German Philology, as well as postgraduate studies at H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University. And on September 29, 2000, at the meeting of the specialized academic council K 64.051.07 of Karazin University, he defended his dissertation on Ukrainian futurism on the topic «Philosophical and aesthetic views of Mikhail Semenko».
On January 28, 2022, Serhiy Zhadan was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Karazin University.
Serhiy Zhadan’s literary works have received numerous national and international awards, have been translated into thirteen languages, making the author one of the most famous contemporary Ukrainian writers. Serhiy Zhadan is also an active organizer of the literary life of Ukraine, a participant in multimedia art projects, as well as actions of civil disobedience.
He is a co-organizer of artistic and literary events, the partner of which is Karazin University. One of the most famous is a joint project of Serhiy Zhadan, Kharkiv Literary Museum and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University “Fifth Kharkiv”. This project is an attempt to find our urban identity in joint conversations: who are we, what do we convey about ourselves and what should we convey, how are we seen and what should we become?
The artist actively holds meetings, open lectures with the university students. In particular, within the project “War and Culture: Dialogue of Enemies?” a creative meeting took place, where he presented a book of poems and translations “Life of Maria”.
