With deep sorrow, we regret to inform that on December 6, 2023, Doctor of Philosophy, Honored Professor of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Alexander Oleksandrovych Mamalui, passed away.
He graduated from the School of History of Kharkiv State University named after O.M. Gorky in 1961, completed his postgraduate studies in 1965, and his doctoral studies at the Institute of Philosophy in 1979. He defended his candidate dissertation, "Some Philosophical Aspects of the Problem of Historical Progress (on the category of historical progress in connection with the general criterion of societal development)," in 1966, and his doctoral dissertation, "The Methodology of 'Capital' in K. Marx and the Systematic Unity of Dialectical and Historical Materialism," in 1982.
Since 1963, he worked at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University as an associate professor in the Department of Philosophy. From 1987 to 1991, he served as the head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology and as the vice-rector for humanitarian education at the Kharkiv Institute of Railway Transport Engineers.
