Renowned Historian and Political History Researcher Vasyl Tantsiura Has Passed Away: The University Expresses Its Condolences
With deep sadness, we announce that on the night of August 16, 2024, Vasyl Ivanovych Tantsiura, a distinguished member of the Karazin University community, passed away at the age of 87.
Vasyl Ivanovych was a renowned specialist in political history, Ukrainian history, and the history of Slobidska Ukraine. He made significant contributions to the training of highly qualified historians as a member of two specialized councils for the defense of doctoral and candidate dissertations.
Since 1956, he commendably advanced from student and postgraduate to Associate Professor and Esteemed Professor, Doctor of Historical Sciences at Karazin University.
Vasyl Ivanovych was also a talented administrator. He served as the head of the Foreign Department, Dean of the Preparatory School for Foreign Citizens (1973–1977), Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (1977–1982), and from 1981 to 1991, he headed several university departments. Since 1992, his career was closely associated with the Department of Ukrainian Studies.
Throughout his long and fruitful career, Professor Tantsiura was honored with numerous awards, including the Order of the Badge of Honor, the V. N. Karazin Medal, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine's Badge of Excellence, and many honorary certificates at municipal and national levels.
His friendly and kind attitude towards colleagues and students, his unwavering cheerfulness, and diligence in work and life will remain an example for us all.
We deeply mourn his passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Vasyl Ivanovych’s family and loved ones, sharing in the sorrow of this loss.
