Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics, School of Mathematics and Computer Science, Mykola Patsehon, has passed away: The University expresses its condolences

4 march 2025 year

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mykola Fedorovych Patsehon on February 26, 2025. He was a renowned specialist in the mechanics and physics of magnetic fluids, head of the Department of Theoretical Mechanics (2000–2005), professor of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (2005–2015), and professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics (2015–2022) at the School of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Mykola Fedorovych was born on November 18, 1951, in the village of Ivanichi, Volyn Region. In 1973, he graduated from the Mechanics and Mathematics School of Kharkiv University (now the School of Mathematics and Computer Science at Karazin University), and since then, his life has been inseparably linked with the university, where he studied in postgraduate studies, wrote his candidate and doctoral dissertations, and taught many courses in theoretical mechanics and the mechanics of continuous media.

His main research area was liquids with extraordinary properties — so-called magnetic fluids, whose behavior is characterized by a number of fascinating effects, including changes in microstructure and the ability to control their behavior in a magnetic field, which has numerous applications in modern technologies.

Mykola Fedorovych dedicated his entire life to science, preparing and mentoring qualified specialists. Seminars with his participation or under his leadership were held in a creative atmosphere with a pursuit of finding the truth.

He was a member of the "Mechanics" section of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and was part of specialized academic councils and editorial boards of professional publications such as "Visnyk Kharkiv National University named after V. N. Karazin. Series: Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Mechanics" and "Visnyk of the National Technical University 'KhPI'. Series: Mathematical Modeling in Engineering and Technology."

The bright memory of Mykola Fedorovych will forever remain among all those who knew this extraordinary and compassionate person.
