The International Scientific Conference "German Classical Philosophy and University Philosophy"
On June 28, 2024, the International Scientific Conference "German Classical Philosophy and University Philosophy" was held, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Immanuel Kant's birth and the 190th anniversary of Johann Baptist Schad's death.
The organizers of the conference:
- H. S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- Department of Theoretical and Practical Philosophy named after Professor J. B. Schad of the School of Philosophy of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University;
- Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Kharkiv National Medical University.
The conference was opened with welcome speeches by the Vice-Rector of Karazin University, Oleksandr Holovko, and the Dean of the School of Philosophy, Ivan Karpenko.
At the plenary session, the following reports were presented:
- "Kant's Foundation of Morality" — Christoph Asmuth, Doctor, Professor, Rector of Augustana-Hochschule (Neuendettelsau, Germany);
- "The Importance of Reading Émilie du Châtelet when Studying Kant" — Ruth Hagengruber, Doctor, Professor of Paderborn University, Director of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, Secretary of the International Association of Women Philosophers, Vice-President of the German Association of Women Scientists (Paderborn, Germany);
- "Schad versus Kant: The Kharkiv Philosophical System of J. B. Schad" — Volodymyr Abashnik, Doctor, Professor of Kharkiv National Medical University and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Ukraine);
- "Kant and the Idea of Freedom" — Volodymyr Shapoval, Doctor, Professor of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs (Ukraine).
Researchers from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Kharkiv National Medical University, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Kharkiv State Academy of Physical Culture, Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport, Kharkiv State Academy of Culture, Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany), University of Lucerne (Switzerland), Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany), and the University of Vienna (Austria) participated in the sections.
