At the beginning of February, an ambitious joint project was launched between the Institute of Physics and Technology and the University Medical Center Groningen (Netherlands). Our scientists have already returned from the first stage of training, bringing invaluable experience for the development of high-tech medicine in Ukraine.

Production of radioisotopes: from theory to practice

Under the leadership of the Director of the Institute of Physics and Technology, Pylyp Kuznietsov, the delegation consisting of Associate Professor Inna Afanasieva and Senior Research Fellow Ivan Yakymenko completed an intensive training program in Groningen.

The key areas of focus included:

Study of processes at the scientific cyclotron PARTREC and industrial cyclotrons of the medical center.
Technologies for the development of scientific PET scanners.

Most importantly, the team discussed real opportunities for launching the production of medical radioisotopes in Ukraine.

Cutting-edge equipment is already on its way to Kharkiv

At the same time, at the MiLabs office, Associate Professor Yaroslav Hrechko and Junior Research Fellow Denys Horok were mastering the operation of preclinical systems U-SPECT-CT, U-PET-CT and VECTor-CT.

Our specialists completed a full training program that included:

Installation and calibration of the systems.
Operation and quality control.
Preparation for launching this equipment within the university.

This is an extremely important step for Ukrainian science and healthcare. The implementation of such technologies will make it possible to bring diagnostics and research to an entirely new level.

We congratulate our colleagues on this successful start! There is still a lot of challenging but inspiring work ahead.
