Karazin University Representatives Participated in the Event Organized by the EU "Creative Europe" Program Bureau in Ukraine
On September 5, 2024, Kyiv hosted the event "Cultural Heritage in Ukraine: From Preservation to Post-War Restoration."
The event was organized by the bureau of the European Union's "Creative Europe" program. This grant program supports the cultural, creative, and audiovisual sectors and aims to strengthen cultural diversity.
According to the organizers, within the framework of the "Creative Europe" program, this forum became the largest event of the year in the "Cultural Heritage" sector.
Partners of the event included the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the National Union of Architects of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute, and several other organizations.
Karazin University was represented at the event by Roman Nesterenko, Deputy Head of the International Relations Department, and Olga Vovk, Deputy Director of the Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local Lore named after Academician P. T. Tronko.
Participants of the event learned about project and grant opportunities not only from the EU program "Creative Europe" but also from several Ukrainian and international institutions: UNESCO, the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, House of Europe, among others. Additionally, already implemented initiatives and projects in the "Cultural Heritage" sector were presented.
The central event of the forum was the panel discussion "The 'Three Pillars' of Cultural Heritage: Archives, Libraries, and Museums in Times of Exponential Change." Leading experts from Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa participated, discussing current issues in the sector's development, particularly the prospects for digitizing collections and their future preservation and use.
At the end of the event, participants were introduced to practical cases on the theme "Preservation of Ukraine's Architectural Heritage During the War."
The event brought together scholars and practitioners from across Ukraine, including delegates from government and local authorities, employees of archives, museums, and libraries, representatives of higher education institutions and academic organizations, as well as international institutions and the civil sector.
The information obtained at the event will prove useful in preparing project proposals for research in the field of cultural heritage.
