Karazin University students took part in the webinar "Civil Society in Action for the Endangered Heritage of Ukraine"
On March 31, 2022, Roman Kravchenko, a graduate of the Faculty of History of the University, Secretary of the Commission on Toponymy and Protection of the Historical and Cultural Environment of the Kharkiv City Council, and Olga Vovk, Deputy Director of the Center for Local Studies named after Academician P. T. Tronka of the Karazin University, participated in the webinar "Civil Society in Action for the sake of the heritage of Ukraine, which is in danger of disappearing".
The organizers and participants of the event were leading European and world organizations in the field of culture, including UNESCO, Europa Nostra, Global Heritage Fund, Our World Heritage, ICOM, ICOMOS, ICCROM and others, as well as representatives of leading universities, research institutions and non-governmental organizations from Europe, North and South America, Australia, Africa.
Speeches were made by Ukrainian experts in the field of museum and monument protection, who outlined for those present the situation that has developed in Ukraine in these areas as a result of military operations. The steps that the world community should take to help preserve the historical and cultural heritage in our country were also discussed.
In particular, Olga Vovk emphasized that Ukraine will need the advisory assistance of restorers, the transfer of relevant technologies and modern materials. She also urged colleagues from Ukraine to record the memory of this war, to collect and preserve sources and examples of intangible cultural heritage born in these stormy times.
