Karazin University Researchers are Fostering International Scientific Collaboration in the Field of Nuclear Fusion Energy.
The head of the Institute of Applied Physics and Plasma Physics at the Education and Scientific Institute 'School of Physics,' Deputy Director General of the National Science Center 'Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology,' Academician Igor Garkusha, along with representatives from 17 participating countries, the European Commission on behalf of the EURATOM program, as well as the consortium of European fusion laboratories (EUROfusion) and Fusion for Energy (F4E), participated in the second Steering Committee meeting of the international research infrastructure project 'The International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility — Demo Oriented NEutron Source' (IFMIF-DONES).
In October 2023 Ukraine obtained an observer status in this project. Its goal is to create and operate a new source of thermonuclear neutrons designed for testing, verification, and qualification of materials for future thermonuclear power plants, including DEMO (the European prototype of a demonstrative thermonuclear reactor).
The representative of Ukraine participated in the committee meeting for the first time.
