Karazin University Representatives Participated in the International Workshop "Kharkiv Under Fire: Local History in Wartime"
On October 24–25, 2024, the University of Hagen’s Berlin campus hosted an international workshop titled "Kharkiv Under Fire: Local History in Wartime."
The event featured Senior Lecturer Victoria Nesterenko from the Department of Ukrainian Studies at the School of Philosophy and Associate Professor Yevhen Zakharchenko from the Department of Ukrainian History at the School of History.
The workshop focused on issues in public and oral history, memory studies, and the theoretical reevaluation of the concepts of the "short" and "long" 20th century. Participants discussed the methodological application of these approaches to local history, particularly the case of Kharkiv, which has been heavily impacted by the ongoing war.
The participants presented their research projects, which they continue to work on despite wartime conditions, and engaged in a public discussion with live English interpretation.
