Karazin Impresses: Monument to Vasyl Karazin

An interesting fact is that the monument to Vasyl Nazarovych Karazin was one of the first monuments in the city of Kharkiv.
The official unveiling of the monument took place on June 20, 1907.
The sculptors depicted Vasyl Karazin during a speech to the city’s public on September 1, 1802, in which he justified the need to establish Kharkiv University.
The approved location for the monument was a round square at the beginning of the main alley of the University Garden (the site now occupied by the monument to Taras Shevchenko).
The monument was relocated several times. In 1934, it was moved to the university building on Universytetska Street.
In 1958, the monument to Vasyl Karazin was moved again to the T. H. Shevchenko City Garden.
Finally, in 2004, the monument found its rightful place — it was installed near the main entrance to Karazin University.
