29 january 2024 year

In its 219 years of existence, Karazin University has become a true flagship of education, science, and culture not only in Ukraine but also on a global scale. On this day, January 29, we celebrate the anniversary of the grand opening of this outstanding institution of higher education — one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe.

Over this time, Karazin University has evolved and influenced change in Kharkiv, the country, and the world. It has provided a powerful impetus for the development of Ukrainian science, education, and culture. The history of the university is enriched with the names of eminent scientists, artists, public and cultural figures, Nobel laureates, immortalized in the names of celestial objects, plants and minerals, laws and formulas, geographical locations.

Karazin University, as one of the most authoritative educational institutions in Ukraine, with achievements renowned far beyond our borders, consistently maintains leading positions among Ukrainian higher education institutions in globally recognized university rankings.

In the face of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, the university's mission was defined as "Education Despite War." Over time, this mission has expanded, and the current goal of the university is the preservation and modernization of the intellectual potential of the region and Ukraine.

The unity of the university community remains unwavering, ready to ensure the educational process despite the challenges of war. The future of Ukrainian youth, who aspire to live in a free, progressive, independent, and developed state, depends on the coordinated efforts of our society. Unyielding Ukrainians work and fight for the right to live at home, in a sovereign Ukraine.

Congratulations on the 219th anniversary of the solemn opening of Karazin University! May the next year be a year of new discoveries, achievements, unity, and development for our community, contributing to the well-being of science, education, and culture in Ukraine!
