Marking the 35th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence

On the eve of the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine hosted a roundtable discussion entitled “Ukraine’s Independence: State-Building, Resilience, and a European Future.”

The event was attended by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Supreme Court Stanislav Kravchenko, Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Petrуshyn, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Andrii Butenko, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Anatolii Zahorodnyi, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Liudmyla Kravchenko, Members of Parliament of Ukraine, heads of higher education institutions, and researchers. Tetyana Kaganovska, Acting Rector of Karazin University, also joined the discussion.

The participants discussed 35 years of Ukrainian independence, the country’s state-building journey, the challenges Ukraine faces today, its resilience, and its European future.

It is important that universities are part of this conversation. This is where the people who will go on to work in public institutions, advance science, the economy, and education, and contribute to rebuilding the country are educated and shaped.

Thirty-five years ago, Ukraine made its choice to be independent. Today, we are defending that choice. And our shared responsibility is to do everything possible to ensure that future generations live in a strong and free Ukraine.
