On June 1, the world celebrates International Children's Day. This holiday draws the attention of the global community to the protection of children's rights.
Ukrainians strive to make every effort to realize children's rights to education, love and care, rest and leisure, healthcare, protection from violence, and more.
However, we live in a harsh reality where russians violate the fundamental right of children — the right to life. Unfortunately, there is no corner in Ukraine where a mother and father can be assured of their child's safety.
As of March 2024, approximately 1,789 children are known to have been affected, 535 of whom have died. A week ago, Kharkiv prayed for a critically injured 13-year-old boy who was wounded in a shelling of the city center. Kharkiv mourned a 12-year-old girl who died as a result of a strike on "Epicenter." Kharkiv empathized with tears for an 8-year-old boy who was undergoing DNA identification so specialists could identify his father.
The Karazin community is deeply saddened that our children are deprived of their childhood. However, even in front-line Kharkiv, we still hear the noise of children on playgrounds. We see schoolchildren at educational events. And this gives hope and confidence. Confidence that we are raising Ukrainian children with dignity! Hope that they will bring a better future to our country.
