Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Donetsk Airport

On January 20, Ukraine honors the indomitable heroes – the defenders of Donetsk Airport. This month marks the 10th anniversary of the end of the battles for the airfield.

Once a modern aviation hub, today Donetsk Airport stands as a symbol of heroism, resonating with pain in the hearts of every Ukrainian. The defense of this strategic point has gone down in history as a testament to the unyielding spirit of Ukrainian warriors. They were called "cyborgs" – not because of armor or technology, but because of their iron will.

For eight months, Ukrainian soldiers, medics, and volunteers held their positions under conditions that seemed beyond human endurance. At the cost of their lives and health, they maintained control over the airport despite constant enemy attacks, shelling, and destruction.

We remember this feat to ensure we never forget what it means to be unconquerable. The heroes, called cyborgs, proved that a fortress is not walls; it is spirit. And that spirit lives in each of us.
