Unity Day of Ukraine: The University Celebrates
Every year on January 22, Ukrainians from across the country and around the world commemorate the event that laid the foundation for the idea of a united and independent Ukraine — the proclamation of the Act of Unity. In 1919, on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv, the unification of the West Ukrainian People's Republic (ZUNR) and the Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR) into a single state was declared. This historic moment became a symbol of our nation's unwavering aspiration for unity and independence.
For decades, within the walls of Karazin University, scholars, students, and cultural figures have nurtured the ideas of Ukrainian identity, driven change, and preserved the spirit of freedom even in the darkest times.
Today, as Ukraine once again defends its independence in the war with russia, the Day of Unity takes on new significance. It is not only a remembrance of a historic act but also a call to unite in the shared struggle for the future. Despite the challenges of war, our university continues to serve Ukraine: Karazin community members organize volunteer initiatives, conduct innovative research, maintain the educational process, support cultural life, serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and educate future generations.
From the Carpathians to Slobozhanshchyna, from Polissia to the Black Sea coast, we stand together because we understand: our roots are strong only when we are united.
Let us unite, for our strength lies in unity!
