International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day
26 April is observed in Ukraine as the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident — one of the largest technogenic disasters in human history. The tragedy of 1986 forever changed the lives of millions of people, left a deep mark on national memory, and became a severe lesson on responsibility for scientific and technological progress.
Karazin University expresses its deep respect and gratitude to the liquidators, scientists, medical workers, military personnel, and all those who, at the cost of their own health and lives, contained the spread of radiation and saved the world from an even greater catastrophe. Their courage and self-sacrifice stand as an example of true service to society.
For the university community, this day is not only a moment of mourning but also a reminder of the importance of scientific development, a culture of safety, and environmental awareness.
Eternal memory to all whose lives were taken by the Chornobyl tragedy. We express our deepest gratitude to the liquidators and affected individuals and call to preserve the memory of these events for the sake of a safer future for generations to come.
