Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day

20 february 2025 year

Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day is commemorated annually on February 20 to honor the memory of citizens who perished during the Revolution of Dignity in the fight for democracy, human rights and freedoms, and Ukraine’s European future. In 2025, we pay tribute to their heroic deeds under the slogan: "Heavenly Hundred: Heroes of the First Victory in a Battle That Continues."

On February 20, 2014, the highest number of casualties occurred in the heart of Ukraine’s capital, with 48 people losing their lives. Along with 54 other victims and fatally wounded participants of the peaceful protests during the winter of 2013–2014, as well as five Maidan activists who died in the spring of 2014 defending democratic values and Ukraine’s territorial integrity, they have been named the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.

February 20, 2025, marks 11 years since the mass shootings of the Heavenly Hundred on Maidan. Additionally, it marks 11 years since the beginning of russian aggression. While unarmed protesters were being killed on Instytutska Street in Kyiv, the russian federation launched its military aggression by annexing Crimea, later occupying parts of Luhansk and Donetsk regions. On February 24, 2022, russia began a full-scale war against Ukraine, which has now entered its third year, bringing death, sorrow, and destruction to Ukrainians. This is the price our country pays for the right to exist as an independent state and sovereign nation. The Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred were among the first to stand up in defense of our homeland.

They have become a symbol of light and victory over darkness. Together with the heroes of the russian-Ukrainian war, who continue to defend our right to live in a free and united Ukraine, they strengthen our faith in Victory.

The Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred were the first to go beyond the limits of the possible, proving to the world the resilience and determination of Ukrainian citizens, their readiness to sacrifice their lives for universal values, defending dignity, freedom, and democracy.

We honor and remember!
