Multilingual education in Ukraine: development and innovations at the School of Foreign Languages of Karazin University

Over the past decade, higher education in Ukraine has been restructured with the aim of integrating into the European educational space in accordance with the principles of student-centered learning, quality assurance, accessibility and inclusion. The basis for the construction of the European educational space is language competencies. They are indispensable for the mobility, cooperation and mutual understanding of people who share borders, providing them with a wider and more diverse educational experience.

Education should provide a rich linguistic repertoire and an understanding of what languages should be studied for what purpose. Language education should respect the heritage of the mother tongue, as well as prepare young people for a globalized world with English as the lingua franca and other foreign languages.

Wide opportunities for this are provided by multilingual education, which enriches the intercultural and international experience of students, expands understanding of the international dimension of the disciplines studied by students, and this contributes to the success of their life in a diverse world, successful employment, which is the key to a reliable professional future.
