History

The School of Economics of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University was founded in 1933. Nowadays, it is a powerful educational, methodological and research unit of the University, which employs over 100 full professors, associate professors, lecturers; trains about 3,000 full-time and part-time students and about 50 postgraduates. The School consists of the Center for Innovative Methods of Education and eight departments: Department of Economics and Management, Department of Economic Cybernetics and Applied Economics, Department of Economic Theory and Economic Management Methods, Department of International Economics, Department of Marketing and Management of Foreign Economic Policy, Department of Mathematical Methods in Economics, Department of Statistics, Accounting and Auditing, Department of Finance and Credit. Top specialists from relevant ministries, departments of Kharkiv City Council and Kharkiv Region Council, leading banks and enterprises of Kharkiv, well-known professors of foreign universities take part in the academic process.

Employment of Graduates

The School of Economics graduates work as economists, financial experts, public officers, accountants, programmers, analysts, auditors in organizations and ministries of economics, finance, statistics; in banks, planning, finance and accounting departments of enterprises; in tax offices, and as lecturers of economic disciplines in higher education institutions.

The School faculty upgrade their qualification at the institutions of the Ministries of Economics and Finance, the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, at schools of economics of national and foreign universities.

The School of Economics offers full-time, part-time, and second higher education. It also introduces e-learning technologies. Parallel studies are available for students of other schools of the University and other higher education institutions, so that they can obtain an economics or management degree.

The School has the Thesis Committee for defense of PhD and doctoral dissertations in three specialties: 8.00.01 "Economic Theory and History of Economic Thought", 8.00.07 "Demography, Labor Economics, Social Economy and Politics", 8.00.08 "Money, Finance and Credit”.

The Academic Board of the School, the Educational and Methodological Council work on the development of the School of Economics.

The School students are engaged in research and take an active part in the activity of the Student Research Society.

The School's training facilities are regularly being upgraded and expanded. At present, they include computer classrooms with modern equipment, a publishing center, language classrooms, which insures training of economists and managers in accordance with modern requirements.
