School of Economics

History
The School of Economics was established in 1933. Its roots go back to the early 19th century, when economic disciplines were already being taught at Kharkiv University.

The development of economic science and education at the university is associated with the work of world-renowned scholars such as Nobel Prize winner in Economics Simon Kuznets, Mykhailo Tugan-Baranovsky, Ovsiy Liberman, and many others.

Today, the School of Economics is one of the leading centers of classical economic education in Ukraine. The faculty currently comprises eight departments:

  • Economic Theory and Economic Management Methods

  • Finance, Banking, and Insurance

  • Economic Cybernetics and Applied Economics

  • Statistics, Accounting, and Auditing

  • International Economics and World Economy

  • Economics and Management

  • Marketing, Management, and Entrepreneurship

  • Mathematical Methods in Economics

Educational Process
The educational process is delivered by over 120 highly qualified academic staff, including 1 corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 30 Doctors of Sciences and Professors, and 80 Candidates of Sciences and Associate Professors.

Currently, more than 1,700 students study at the School of Economics.

The faculty offers postgraduate programs in Economics, Finance, Banking, Insurance, and Stock Market, Marketing, and has a specialized Academic Council for dissertation defense. Scientific journals published by the faculty include Bulletin of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Series “Economics” and Social Economics.

Bachelor Programs

Students can study under 6 specialties and 16 educational programs, including:

  • Interdisciplinary program: Innovative Entrepreneurship and Management

All programs are competency-based, aligned with the National Qualifications Framework, higher education standards, and best international practices.

The faculty emphasizes active learning methods, multimedia and cross-disciplinary technologies, and master classes. Online and distance learning opportunities are fully developed.

Practical training is ensured through updated curricula, student internships, classes led by top managers from ministries, institutions, and business organizations, as well as professors from foreign universities. Student training considers employer needs to ensure graduates are in demand both nationally and internationally.

The Faculty of Economics is actively involved in international educational and research cooperation, collaborating notably with:

  • University of Barcelona (Spain)

  • European University Viadrina (Germany)

  • Aristotle University (Greece)

  • Technological Institute of Kavala (Greece)

Students participate in international mobility programs at European University Viadrina (Germany), Vienna University (Austria), University of Barcelona (Spain), University of Lodz (Poland), and other global universities.
