Winter Admission

The experimental project “Open Path to Higher Education” is aimed at overcoming learning loss caused by the temporary occupation of parts of Ukraine or the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and at preserving human capital by improving Ukrainian citizens’ readiness for entrance examinations and competitive selection for higher education.

Application submission period

Applications for enrolment as a learner of the Preparatory Department are submitted to the “Open Path to Higher Education” Preparatory Department of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University from 20 January 2026 to 20 February 2026.

Enrolment of learners to the Preparatory Department is completed no later than 1 March 2026.

Study format

To organise the educational process, the following formats are used:

  • in-person (full-time/daytime);

  • distance/online.

The educational programme includes instruction for learners of the Preparatory Department in each compulsory subject in the amount of 90 contact hours (direct participation in the learning process) and includes at least one elective subject with the same workload.

Training is completed with final assessment (attestation) in the subjects studied.

Graduates of the Preparatory Department are those who have fully completed the curriculum, mastered the course syllabi of the relevant disciplines, and successfully passed the final examinations in each subject.

Eligibility and required documents

The right to be enrolled as a learner of the Preparatory Department is granted to Ukrainian citizens in the following categories:

  1. residents of territories of Ukraine temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation, territories of active hostilities, and territories where hostilities may occur, included in the relevant list approved by Order of the Ministry for Development dated 28 February 2025 No. 376, who were unable to participate in the admissions campaign;

  2. persons deprived of personal liberty as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine, after their release;

  3. persons discharged from military service of all categories after 24 February 2022;

  4. Ukrainian citizens currently serving in the military who have the opportunity, willingness, and their command’s consent;

  5. Ukrainian citizens who have returned from abroad;

  6. Ukrainian citizens who are abroad;

  7. persons registered to take the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) who did not appear for testing and do not belong to categories 1–5;

  8. persons who did not pass the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT);

  9. students in the final year of study at general secondary education institutions, vocational education institutions, or professional pre-higher education institutions.

The above individuals may obtain the status of a learner of the Preparatory Department if they have completed full general secondary education (or are completing it in the current academic year) and have not previously studied at the Preparatory Department and/or obtained the status of a higher education student at the first or second cycle of higher education funded by the state budget (except for persons who did not commence their studies) and/or funded by individuals (legal entities).

Application form link and submission procedure

To obtain the status of a learner of the Preparatory Department, applicants submit an application indicating:

  • surname, first name, patronymic (if any), date of birth, passport details;

  • details of the full general secondary education document (if available in the Register of Education Documents of the Unified State Electronic Database on Education), or information confirming submission of a certified copy of the document if it is not available in the Register;

  • or information confirming issuance of a certificate of study in the final year at a general secondary/vocational/professional pre-higher education institution;

  • the applicant category under the experimental project (as provided in Clause 3 of this Appendix) and the details of, or information on submission of, electronic copies of original supporting documents;

  • the form of study (in-person/distance); the elective subject (if a foreign language is selected, the language must be specified from the proposed list);

  • the source of funding (state budget in cases defined by Clause 22 of the Procedure for implementing the experimental project, or funds of individuals and/or legal entities).

The applicant attaches to the electronic application a motivation letter and copies of documents confirming eligibility for admission to the Preparatory Department. These documents must be certified with a qualified electronic signature (QES) and sent to: cdo@karazin.ua

If studies are financed by individuals and/or legal entities, a relevant tuition agreement (contract) is

concluded. The agreement may be concluded remotely using qualified electronic signatures, including by accepting a public offer.

The order on enrolment as a learner of the Preparatory Department is issued by the Rector on the basis of the decision of the Admissions Committee. If a learner, without valid reasons, does not start studying within 10 calendar days from the start date, the enrolment order is revoked with respect to that person.

Tuition fees for the “Open Path to Higher Education” Preparatory Department

  • Fee per learner, per subject, for the entire study period: UAH 17,500.00

Group size: from 5 learners

  • Duration: 3 months

  • Fee per learner, per subject, for the entire study period: UAH 3,500.00

Group size: from 10 learners

  • Duration: 3 months

  • Fee per learner, per subject, for the entire study period: UAH 1,750.00
