The Graduate of the School of Sociology, Alexander Chaban, was Awarded the Honorary Sign of the Kharkiv Regional Council "For Merits to Kharkiv Region" (posthumously)
For heroism in carrying out official combat missions to defend the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine, for dedication to the military oath and the Ukrainian people, personal bravery and courage during the defense of Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region from Russian occupation forces, Alexander Chaban (posthumously) has been awarded the honorary sign "For Merits to Kharkiv Region" by the Kharkiv Regional Council. The decision was made in accordance with the decree of the head of the Kharkiv Regional Council dated December 6, 2023.
Alexander Chaban was born in 1987, graduated the School of Sociology of Karazin University with a specialization in Political Science. He was the top student of his class and became the head of the Student Scientific Society during his studies.
Alexander was a volunteer and a veteran of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). At the onset of the full-scale invasion, he returned to the front lines with the 92nd Brigade. Alexander served as the commander of an anti-tank platoon and, along with his comrades, participated in the first battles in the Kharkiv region. At the beginning of the war, he organized training for fighters on the effective use of Javelin anti-tank missile systems.
Alexander Chaban died in combat on July 20, 2022, in the Kharkiv region near the village of Hrakove, covering his comrade.
At the event of the Kharkiv Regional Council, Alexander's mother, Olena Semenivna Chaban, who received the award, was present.
Also, at the event, the honorary sign "For Merits to Kharkiv Region" (posthumously) was awarded to Vladyslav Titarenko, a graduate of Kharkiv Medical University. The mother of the fallen hero remarked, "Our children did everything they could. We ask all of you, ordinary citizens, officials, to bring this matter to an end, to help achieve victory. Only after victory can we seek revenge and punish those who stole our future from us. Now we defend not only the land where our parents lie but also the land where our children will rest."
